my ever amusing immunology class.....

professor: so the viral or antigen peptide binds to and fits in the groove of the MHC molecule. the 3-d image is like a hog dog fitting into the bun. class I MHC can bind longer peptides because the ends of the bun are open; and class II MHC binds shorter peptides because the ends are closed. So remember the principle: tight buns.
