in keeping w/ boredom and taking random interesting tests, i thought this one is pretty funnie.
do u know datespeak?
What You Say:
Okay, so you seem to have figured out that he can't read your mind. Good for you. But, you don't exactly say what you mean either.
What You Believe:
Hmmm...seems like you're not quite sure whether to trust him or not. You probably want to take what he says at face value, but there's some nagging part of you that just won't let you completely believe him.
disclaimer: hopefully tho, whatever results that i got is just the outward showing of my cynical side, and in no way reflect my thinking/mentality in real life. ;)

-~Which SUNSET are you? (v.2)~-
brought to you by Quizilla
You are the multicolored sunset. You're relatively balanced! I know, it might be hard to believe, but you're just so much better than everyone else...and don't have a huge ego to show for it! We love you! You make the world a better place. You're a renaissance woman or man, you're a connoisseur of many things. You might not know this, but many people want to be you. You are creative. Make sure you let yourself play, because when you do, amazing things will start to happen!

ekimlin left for LA....faithfi is sad. *sniffe* that's ok, onli less den 3 weeks til visit time. :)
learning javax.swing is kinda interesting.....almost like designing webpages, except w/ applets n applications instead. things magically pop up on ur screen and it's kinda nifty how u dun have to know anything about how it works. kinda like a doctor who uses all these medical devices but don't realli know how it works under the surface--no circuit design and mechanics knowledge necessary.
anyway, i ramble, which i tend to do when i'm not thinking and my hands are just typing. good nite.

the Lord was very gracious to me today in programming. i was able to finish the easy part of parsing the data, and will move on to the challenging GUI part tomorrow. just a lot of little mistakes and logic faults that i was able to catch without that much difficulty--no staring at the screen for an hr type of things. of course, 3 hrs of today was spent on eating/making dinner while watching the world series. :) in a series where i dun realli have a fav, it's always fun to root for the team losing at the current moment (today being the angels, down 3-2 in the series). tomorrow's game should be very exciting!
due to certain amount of braindead-ness from programming all day, i have nothing interesting to say....so i will just continue the theme of last entry.....
Act III
(shendiao trying to decipher images on her webcam)
shendiao: is there a white person w/ a tutleneck behind u?
eculeus: no
eculeus: hahahahahaha
eculeus: yeah
eculeus: she's my girlfriend
eculeus: oh wait
eculeus: my OTHER girlfriend
(moral: guys think they're funnie)
Act IV
shendiao: jessica is reading this
eculeus: oh
eculeus: hi jessica
eculeus: if you see weirdness in this relationship, it ALLLL comes from yiyin over there
eculeus: i bring normality and stability
eculeus: just to let you know
(moral: guys always shift the blame)
ok, probably no more guy morals/bashing for a while.....have to maintain some semblance of dignity. :P

Act II
shendiao: i'm programming
shendiao: stringTokenizer here i come!
eculeus: ahhh
eculeus: run stringTokenizer! run while you still can!!
eculeus: there's still time! she's got me, but save yourself!!
(moral: guys antagonize)
Act I
me: at least u dun lie to me.
guy: y would i do that?
me: cuz u wanna impress me!
guy: oh...but i already impress u.
(moral: guys are cocky)
so i went to interpraise today! and it was Biblical! yay! :P
but dennis is a solid speaker...and the topic of unity is very important and he did a great job w/ it, and looking at scripture. i particularly liked how he stressed the importance of being united about the reality of sin....and also about the work of Christ. :) just realli bringing out what is central to the Gospel, and not compromising about the Biblical truths. and he was realli funnie/entertaining too. :P too bad he doesn't like spinach--it's yummie. :)
the next week n half will be VERY busy, until veteran's week. i rolled up my sleeves today and finally started working, after putting it off for, oh, about a week. :P my prayer is that i will not waste so much time as i have in the past week, and also that my programs won't make me want to bang hard object against my computer. ::sigh::
missed CSI today b/c of interpraise....anyone know if it was good? :)
oh, from a brochure i got from interpraise, it's a program called Operation Christmas Child, and pretty much u find a shoe box and pack it w/ goodies for a child, and u can include a picture or letter too! :) it sounds realli neat....and fun. :) everyone go check it out!

today was a very standard day. went to class, browsed on the web in between, went to more class, came home, and slacked off. :P
oh, so we (me, faithfi, enigma, kristychoo, karroty) watched the show "The Bachleor" tonite on abc. for those that don't watch tv, it's basically a show where this guy meets a bunch of girls and eliminates some each week until there's only one left. and i guess they date or get married or something. anyways, it's realli disturbing and wrong cuz pretty much all the girls "falls in love" w/ the guy, and when they dun get picked they'll cry. and of course he gets to go on dates w/ them and kiss all of them and stuff...and also group dates where there's several women and him.....and all the girls live in this one house. and of course he likes them all and wish he can keep all of them. *roll eyes* typical of guys. and all the girls get all emotional and sez that he's the "man of my dreams". gimme a break. :P
Wednesday, October 23, 2002
i use up so much time each day....not even counting the time when i'm actually consciously wasting time by watching tv, browsing online, etc.; but just when i'm walking to campus, eating, waiting for something, etc. even the 10 minutes before a class starts can be used for something. :) if i used all that time to memorize verses, or read a psalm, or pray, that would strengthen me throughout the day. it amazes me to read about ppl that can write whole manuscripts while commuting 30 minutes to/from work everyday. i pretty much just space out or something when walking, or waiting for class to start. :P
this is a funnie/interesting idea: (college professor to students) "'i hope when u are married and ur wife tells u she is almost ready except for a couple of last-minute touches, you will sit down and read a book. u will be surprsied at how much knowledge u acquire.' Dick Schneider, an editor for Guideposts, insists that he read the whole Great Books Library over the years while waiting for his wife to get ready."
"He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much....." -- Luke 16:10

BCS standings are out. notre dame is a surprising third, but they're playing FSU this coming saturday. GO SEMINOLES! :) but my dolphins lost to the bills this weekend.....and to the bills too! sadness....serves them right for rejecting gasden. :P
just downloaded a free pop-up ad stopper now--seems to work pretty well. *sighs happily*
just random things to share right now, since i just got back from campus and hardly am in a "thinking" mood....
so i'm starting to stalk my sister's bf.....j/k j/k. i'm not that scary yet. mmm, let's use the word "monitor" instead. =D
i'm going to ny/nj for new yr's week! it'll be lotsa fun, although i definitely am NOT going to time square for new yr's eve no matter how my sister tries to imprison me. :P i'm already always cold in berkeley, so it would be devastating to stand in sub-20 degrees weather for 6 hrs at nite. however, a friend did promise me we would go to the soup nazi place (seinfeld fans).
it's scary when u can understand kevin's "Top Ten pick-up lines overheard while programming at Soda".....more scary when u've heard them before.....eeeek, i'm glad i got out of soda before it sucked me in. :P
the associated press picks up on some weird new stories.....among them (maybe john will want to implement this):
Jailed women walking ... on the catwalk
Monday, October 21, 2002
just updated my blog template, w/ lotsa help from greg. :) it's all cuz kevin's a copier and he used my template. that's ok, mine now is way cooler anyways. ;) i'll update and revise more later. but this is pretty close to the final version.
oh oh oh, picked up more stupid jokes this weekend:
why can't the kids see the pirate movie?
...
...
answer: cuz it's rated aaaarrrr.
what did the kamikaze instructor say to his students?
...
...
answer: watch very closely--i'm onli gonna do this once.

john woo, u better watch out!
Burglar uses lawn mower to evade police
The Associated Press
(Published Thursday, October 10, 2002, 10:16 AM)
FAIRFIELD, Ill. (AP) - It's hardly the fastest thing on the road, but police say a red riding lawn mower was an effective getaway vehicle for a burglar.
Witnesses told police they saw the suspect driving the mower away from a home where an intruder made off with more than $1,000 in jewelry Monday.
"We believe he rode the mower to the crime scene as well," said Fairfield police Sgt. Steven Sons.
Fairfield, in southeastern Illinois, is about 30 miles west of the Indiana state line.
many times i have to remind myself over that it is the Holy Spirit who works in ppl, and that that is not our responsiblity, which is to share about the God that has saved me. ultimately, that gives Him glory, whatever the outcome might be. :) awesome lyrics below:
Who is this King of glory that persues me with His love
And haunts me with each hearing of His softly spoken words
My conscience, a reminder of forgiveness that I need
Who is this King of glory who offers it to me
Who is this King of angels, O blessed Prince of Peace
Revealing things of Heaven and all it's mysteries
My spirit's ever longing for His greace in which to stand
Who is this King of glory, Son of God and song of man
His name is Jesus, precious Jesus
The Lord Almighty, the King of my heart
The King of glory
The Lord of Earth and Heaven, the Creator of all things
He is the King of glory, He's everything to me
faculty advising today was fun....free pizza and soda. :) and everyone should watch CSI! thursay nites at 9pm!

A little about sports news interesting to me:
hehehe, Knicks' McDyess is out for the whole season....
and of course, i dun REALLI believe they'll get Lebron James. *pish-posh*
and this past weekend, usc robbed us of a win in football, all b/c of an incorrect td call. *SIGH*
Awesome win by the Dolphins on sunday! beating denver w/ a 53 yd field goal seconds left in 4th quarter....Olindo Mare is the man--he's done this more than once, trust me. however, Fiedler will be out for a month, and Gadsden is injured too. =(
lastly, my Seminoles lost to the Hurricanes this past weekend, on a field goal. sadness.

my prof. tried to explained fourier transforms simplified, but perhaps i'm not not cut out for them :P
J.C. Ryle is hardcore! :P check it out:
"I have a question to offer you. It is contained in three words, 'DO YOU PRAY?'...I ask whether you pray, because prayer is absolutely needful to a man's salvation....this I do say, that not praying is a clear proof that a man is not yet a true Christian....He may boast confidently of election, grace, faith, hope, and knowledge...but you may rest assured it is all vain talk if he does not pray....Do you wish to find out whether you are a true Christian? Then rest assured that my question is of the very first importance--'DO YOU PRAY?'" --Call to Prayer
something disturbing my immunology professor said:
(on signalling of T cell activiation by different protein tyrosine kinases)
"in the Src-family, the lyn, hck, lck, etc. kinases are expressed in the hematopoietic system only, while fyn is expressed promiscously."
Me: ooooookay then.

did u know that the Philistines gave guilt offerings of golden tumors and golden mice to God (1 Sam. 6)? "So you shall make likenesses of your tumors and likenesses of your mice that ravage the land, and you shall give glory to the God of Israel..." that's amusing.
i didn't have a very good evening...and onli got little work done...made other ppl sad.....i duuno y--probably b/c i'm sinful.
Sunday, October 13, 2002
ooow, ooow, ooowie. i'm sun burnt. :(
camping was fun! i came back w/ everything(yes, i mean everything) red from the red sand/dirt of california!! i did not know that...in fl it was so much less messy, cuz the sand/dirt was beige. :P so i stayed dirty all weekend in redness.
hehe, the top of mt. diablo is quite pretty, esp. the sunset. i got to try new stuff, like making s'mores(graham crackers w/ melted chocolate and roasted melted marshmallows and hobos(kinda hard to explain) over the camp fire. the guys (and some girls) played laser tag at nite...and we also went repelling--kinda scary but fun. :) and we also worshipped and talked and laughed and slepted and everything fun.
God's creation is amazing. and we are part of it. To be "spiritual" is to be totally human, as God intends us to be. we make Him visible as His image-bearers. Thus the second Commandment makes sense not to make other/false images of God--because we are the images! Sin only distorts what is good, but creation itself can't be obliterated by sin. redemption is the renewal of our whole life and restoring that image we have. Thus we can learn to appreicate and find freedom in the goodness of God's world!~
just washed/scrubed my shoes and backpack of the redness.
stupid joke of the trip (complements of dave):
what is the name of a european Miles Davis?
.......
......
......
answer: Kilometers Davis
ha. ha. ha.

so, i finally finished my stupid poisson distributions of photon count and light intensity differences after two whole nites (yes, i do mean WHOLE), mainly because i had to navigate myself around Excel, which i had never used before.....up next: my informatics projects!!! eeeeeeek.
on a brighter note, i'm going on a camping trip tomorrow!!~ well, only Mt. Diablo (25 minutes away), but who cares--i haven't been on a camping trip since 7th grade. and that time it rained the first nite and our tent wasn't waterproof....go figure. it will be a necessary get away for me--yes, i am high maintenance and inducive to stress.
on another note, i'm starting to pick out my classes for next semester...turns out this class i've wanted to take since spring of this yr is onli offered at 8-9:30 am! devastating! but i do have one more opening for a class....anyone has any ideas/suggestions? reply!~
today i read about how the israelites went to war w/ the philistines (1 Sam 4). they lost the first battle, so they brought the ark of the convenant from Shiloh to the battlefield and believed that it'll save them from defeat. And of course, they lost again. i might be attempted to say, "how stupid--don't they know that it's only a object?" but often we lose sight of the true God and put our hopes/fears/trust/energy into mere earthly things/ideas. how foolish am i!
ending on a comical note, one of my bioe profs led class discussion this tuesday...usually when the ta leads it, he just lectures n give us hints/clues on how to do the hw. however, this prof. wasn't going to do the same thing. he actually wanted a DISCUSSION. and being an engineering class where most students have no idea what's going on, it didn't work too well. :P
prof (after 5 minutes of silence): i can just sit here and ramble on and on....that's what happens when u give someone a room and captive audience.
prof (after more silence): well, after 20 minutes of class the conclusion is obviously u guys aren't lively ppl.
prof (class ends, sarcastically): boy, has this been just the most memorable and stimulating discussion we've ever had!
be back on sunday...pray that i dun get bitten by too many things too many times.
Wednesday, October 09, 2002
i dun understand how to do my hw....it's always depressing when that happens.
and i still refuse to look at my midterm to see my grade.
Tuesday, October 08, 2002
So i read Ruth today....that's probably the onli narrative book in the OT that i know realli well. :P sign that i should read OT more often. :P yes yes, all in due time.
so it's interesting how all the ppl's names meant something in hebrew.....like Naomi means "pleasant", and Ruth means "friendship", etc....but y would someone name babies Mahlon and Chilion (meaning "sick" and pining", respectively)? i dun get it. :P i certainly wouldn't want a name like that. but some of them r cool, like Elimelech means "my God is king", and Boaz means "in him is strength". see, those are so much cooler. ;) maybee when i have kids, i'll secretly give them hebrew or greek names for fun. heh. =D Faithfi sez karis is greek for "grace"....how cool. :)
but Ruth is the ultimate example of the Proverbs 31 wife/woman. just some of the similarities (from MacAuthur study bible):
1) devoted to her family
2) diligent in her labor/work
3) dedicated to godly speech
3) dependent on God
4) discreet with men
5) delivering blessings
conclusion: I think there isn't one area in which i don't need improvement in. :)

"I sing the goodness of the Lord, that filled the earth with food;
He formed the creatures with His word, and then prounoused them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where'er I turn my eye;
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky!
well, after a weekend of semi-productivity, it's time to update this old thing again. :)
my life was relatively boring this weekend, the main chunk of saturday consisting of programming, watching tv, talking on the fone, and browsing online. both of my roommates left me on saturday--they're active ppl, not like me. :P so, i guess nothing much that interesting. :)
i learned about the aorist tense in the greek today in sunday school. ;) well, that's not what i PRIMARILY learned, but it was pretty interesting. heh, maybee someday i'll study greek....when i don't have projects and midterms on my heels. it was mainly to point out the errors of the 'victorious life doctring', refering to Romans 12:1. they (like charles stanley) interpret the "present you bodies" as a one-time consecration, and then just 'let go and let God'. i guess it also involves not having to ask forgiveness of sins as a Christian, and many other important implications. their defense is that the verb "present" here is in the aorist tense in the greek, which in the OT and maybee other places (?) is used as past tense of a one time event. However, tim points out that the aorist tense only means "undefined as to continuous or completed action, without reference to time". the best example is in Matt 14:29, when Jesus said, "Come!" to Peter. l
anyways, i won't bore u anymore w/ the greek, which of course i don't understand at all. :P I thought that Tony had a very interesting point in his sermon today, about how there's two sides of ppl (i guess unbelievers), one is inside a large box filled w/ light, and the other is pushing down on the box. Once in a while, the person inside will bump up against the box and some light will crepe out, but then the man on top would just use more force to block the light. So is man the same way, as suppressors of truth, but their conscience is always inside, b/c they are still created in the image of God.
saying and understanding in the mind Romans 12:1-2 is easy...doing it is infinitely harder. :P
"Christian's spiritual worship involves an extreme of realism -- the bodily offering of himself. "

(faithfi comes back to apt, sit down at her desk)
shendiao: (run towards her) moooommie!
faithfi: (looks at computer screen) hmmmmm?
shendiao: (gets close) MOOOOMMIE!
faithfi: (looks up) what?
shendiao: wow! u responded!
anyways conclusion: we're sillie.
shendiao99: u finally updated ur blog!
shendiao99: yippie!
shendiao99: :-)
jenniferyellow: oh did you see it?! :o)
jenniferyellow: hehe...
jenniferyellow: i didn't think anyone would notice until i TOLD them :o)
shendiao99: hah!
shendiao99: ye of little faith
shendiao99: :-P
jenniferyellow: wow...
jenniferyellow: indeed..
jenniferyellow: my faith has been much strengthened by this interaction :o)
jenniferyellow: j.k. :o)
i think my ta is REALLI REALLI nice......there's supposedly 3 ta's for my bioe class, but onli one of them does stuff; the other two just grade the hw and the tests i guess....
so, my class is realli dumb....either that or the material realli is very hard. so, every week in discussions and office hrs, my ta has to explain all the concepts again and again....and we still don't understand most of the stuff. :P today we had our midterm review session......i mean, the poor guy is probably SOOO bored cuz he has to repeat the same things over and over and OVER....probably also thinking how dumb these undergrads are.
ta: so these matrix values are tensors.
student: what's a tensor?
ta: (gives a concise but technical answer)
student: (pauses)
student: do we have to know this for the exam?
ta: i don't think it's necessary.
(whole class breathe sigh of relief)
haaaaalllo! i am back i am back....my blog is excessively delighted to be active and useful. ;)
i was very tired today...definitely need more than 6-7 hrs of sleep a nite to keep me hyped up. Bible study was awesome as usual, and the students from masters college graced us w/ their presence this weekend.....during some missionary/support work up here for grace period. we talked (well, calvin primarily) about stealing and working. mainly working, and it was very interesting:
wrong perceptions about work that de-values it:
1) it's secular
2) only value is to have chance to share the gospel w/ others
3) purpose is to earn money for good use ("necessary evil")
In fact, that's totally WRONG! it denies the honor and dignity of work, and denies God's creation...for we were created for His good pleasure, and created to work, just as God worked 6 days for creation. God gave adam and eve the Garden to work and tend to it; it wasn't just this magical place where everything grew by itself and humans onli lounge around all day, even though that's what we think of. :P the negative things we associate w/ work is onli because it's corrupted under the curse, and tainted by sin. the sanctity of work is very important to understand, and the idea that we can serve and love Him through work. so, that's just a little bit on that. i think in many ways i am guilty of separating "work" from "spiritual" things, when in reality work IS spiritual!~
oh, there's this japanese international student that's coming to grace period for her sociology assignment. she is not saved and doesn't know a lot about Christianity, so it's exciting to have the opportunity to show to a unbeliever in depth how the body of Christ is different and separated from the world, and that we share a love that the world can't ever have. :) well, that and being able to preach the gospel to her many many times. ;)

instead of posting tonite i think i'll take the time to catch up on emails. hope no one is too disappointed. :) it's getting way too late for my bedtime.

my roommate and i are weird.....we're in the same apt, yet we im each other to communicate........
shendiao99: i do not exist
shendiao99: u do not see me
shendiao99: or hear me
faithfi: =-O you just denied a creation of God
faithfi: you didn't wake me up tihs morning :-(
faithfi: :-D
faithfi: j/k
shendiao99: uh huh
shendiao99: yeah.....
shendiao99: if i did you would have whined a lot
shendiao99: plus, i saw ur paper on the desk
faithfi: eh i do that already
faithfi: what's the difference
faithfi: i'm going into the room now
faithfi: better hide
i just helped faithfi read a bunch of essays she has to evaluate for her buj journal society thing. i must say that the amount of boring and incoherent things that ppl write about is incredible. but then it's kinda cool to be in control of someone else's fate. :P i read about the history of soma, the inadequacies of the liberal democracy, and a psychology experiment involving infants (w/ 10 pgs of background, 4 pages of methods, one page of data, and one page of discussion....so yeah, does that sound balanced to u?). the one about AIDS in south africa was interesting in the beginning, but it was 60 pgs long, went on many unnecessarily/unrelated tangents, and i didn't particular feel like learning the nitty-gritties of the history of medical patents and international policies on them.
so that is why i picked a major that u don't write papers unless you have some reproducible results of significance. that way other ppl in the world to have to sit there and read 20+ pages of my ramblings and occasional references. :P
7:15 am -- got up
7:45 am -- left for class
8:55 am -- get out of class; go to library
9:55 am -- finish my hw
10:05 am -- tried to see my advisor
10:30 am -- realli bored

"...discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness." -- 1 Tim 4:7
"Holiness is not an option for those who claim to be children of the Holy One...." ~Whitney
Even though i goofed off a lot of time today, i still feel realli tired and overburdened w/ schoolwork. i'm starting to get into the stage of not realli caring too much about putting efforts into homeworks and assignments...hopefully, this will not be a permanent stage because.......
we learned about time management in small group today! well, that and also discipline in general. There many ppl in the room that are more wise and knowledgable and Godly than me, so i feel like i have a lot to learn from them. :) And everyone says edifying things, and also are humble and not hold back our own sins, so it was the highlight of the day!~
well, one midterm came and passed....so much for doing well in school. ;) well, half kidding....i'm aiming for a B avg. for my classes this semester, which is managable hopefully, without killing me.
realized how much work i have to do the remainder of this week because i've spent all the time studying these first two days....no slacking off permitted!~
interesting event: someone actually asked me for advice today.....like, REAL advice....how funnie that is, since that means they think i can contribute something useful to their problems/issues. :P however, it is not something to be taken lightly, and i must think about all that i say before i say it, making sure that hopefully it is a Biblical answer.....or at the very least, something that doesn't go against its teachings. what a heavy responsibility that is!
i am tired....all energy used today on immunology....good nite. :)
